Q & A
This Proof Research bolt-action barrel blank is an 18-inch, 6.5mm (.264) bore carbon fiber blank with a 1:7.5 PXT twist and a Sendero contour. It is an unfitted blank for custom rifle builders and gunsmiths to chamber, thread and fit to an action. PXT is Proof Exponential Twist rifling, which starts at a very slow twist at the throat and tightens progressively to the nominal rate at the muzzle; Proof states this lowers bullet engraving force and extends barrel life. The barrel has a steel core wrapped in aerospace-grade carbon fiber, which Proof says makes it up to 64% lighter than a steel barrel of similar contour.
